Gratitude

What a great day.. sunshine, and laughter with good friends.

The most wonderful things in life are free and amidst the doom and gloom of the news  these days it is really worth remembering the many things we can be grateful for.  I like to ask the question ” What am I grateful for today?”  usually before I go to sleep. Today I listened to someone on the radio who had lost their sight  and really recognised how we can so often take our senses for granted.

Whilst my sight can be challenging ( I really am very short sighted)  I thought about the amazing Autumn colours today and how grateful I was to be able to enjoy the beauty. So what are you grateful for today?

Birthdays

It was my birthday a couple of days ago and I had an amazing day – it made me appreciate my wonderful daughters and all the effort they made so that I could enjoy myself. Many friends from all walks of life, some more recent than others, took time to get in touch and say ‘Happy Birthday’ and it was so lovely. The evening was spent with family and friends – some of whom hadn’t met before and I reflected on the important role we can play for one another in making new connections and meeting new people – something which happens more easily when we are younger than when our lives become more static! So why not think of who you can introduce to each other – they might just have something to share and what a lovely gift from you!

Appreciating friends

Breaking my foot and being stopped in my tracks and slowed down has given me ‘thinking time’!  Lots of it! and even though I’ve found it very frustrating to be restricted there have been positives.  Having time is allowing me to see things from different perspectives and to be more creative. I’m really discovering that when you stay still and allow life to go on around you all kinds of things happen. To start with, your friends know where you are and so you get more visitors. I am so grateful for all the amazing people I have in my life (some of them for so long now that they almost seem to know me better than I do myself) I’m so pleased we have made the effort to keep our friendships alive through all the moves and changes – and again I’m reminded that it doesn’t take that much to call, remember birthdays  – so here’s a Bright Thought for the day – “When it comes to your friends, get off your bottom and make the effort – whatever you invest has the potential for the most amazing return!!!”

Positive relationships

It’s cloudy and cold and so the sun lounger idea isn’t working and my foot is too swollen and painful for me to move far. I guess I have to give in gracefully and stay in bed or on the sofa! What positives can I find today – well as I can’t go far, I’ve seen lots more of my daughters who are taking it in turns to be with me every day, I’ve had lots of visitors and so much sleep I’m feeling very rested. I’m so lucky I’ve got such wonderful neighbours, who are popping in to make sure I’m not too bored! And it reminds me how lucky I have always been in that way – one of the things I have always had in my life has been wonderful, helpful caring supportive neighbours who have gone way above and beyond what you would expect. My life would have been so much harder without them. Building positive relationships makes so much difference, it doesn’t take that much to do and has the potential to give us lots of happiness and satisfaction. What can you do today to get to know your neighbours better – you never know when you might need one another!

Keeping balance!

Five days after landing at the bottom of the  stairs with a broken 5th Metatarsal (it’s in your foot and I’ve been told is the same injury that kept David Beckham out of the World Cup) and I’m beginning to be safer on the crutches (definitely not as easy as it looks) and I’ve got the hang of going upstairs backwards on my bottom so with all this my arms are getting toned (unexpected bonus), I’m sleeping 14 hours a day, I’m learning how much I take my mobility for granted and how much I have to be grateful for.  After yet another visit to the hospital my foot is so swollen they’ve taken the plaster off – (it was No. 5) and so now my foot feels very vulnerable with only tubigrip on it but it’s so light! I am however, a bit worried that one leg is developing muscle and the other is losing it. Help! I’m becoming lop sided!!

Possibilities thinking!

Ok I’m being positive today! It’s Sunday, I’m being taken out for lunch, and next week I’ll still be off work, (remember I was supposed to be on holiday!) and if the sun shines I can sit outside on the lounger, I can have a cool box with food and drink at my side and read – that sounds like a reasonable way to pass the time – or I can get a cab, install myself in a cafe bar, get the net book out, get on with some work, observe the world and friends can come along for a drink or lunch. There are possibilities!!

Freedom – thank you!

Today I’m celebrating the resourcefulness of my friends, who have turned up with an office chair with amazing castors so I can now use my crutches to ‘push’ myself along in the kitchen and living room (one is tiled floor and the other is wood – useful). Freedom – thank you! And my daughter has been and borrowed a wheelchair from the Red Cross so that I can get out for Sunday dinner tomorrow without too much effort! I don’t think I’ve mentioned how hard I’m finding it to manage the crutches and how sore my hands are from taking all my weight! Lots of new experiences and learning for me still! Bright thought for today

We can achieve so much more when we allow others to supprot us

Managing change!

I’m always amazed at the capacity of most of us to respond to change – really we don’t always give ourselves enough credit for how well we cope.  I’ve never broken anything before and didn’t realise quite how much it would hurt! Or how limiting it might be! Going to the loo is something I’ve just done when I’ve needed to – now it takes me quite some planning! Similarly making a hot drink! Now it involves standing on one leg (thank goodness I practiced this in my yoga classes!) and putting the tea in a flask, putting the flask in a bag and hanging the bag round me so that I have both hands and arms free for the crutches. No wonder I want to be waited on! Bright thought for today – Challenges give us teh opportunity to see things from a different perspective and find new ways to respond

Lying on the sofa

12 Aug

Here I am, lying on the sofa with my feet up! Great you might think – No! it’s not! I should be on holiday! And I’m here now because last night I came downstairs (without using all of the steps) and I landed at the bottom with a broken foot so right now…………..I’m struggling to find anything positive about the situation. And for the person who suggested that it was life’s way of telling me to slow down – I DIDN’T NEED TELLING! I WAS GOING TO SLOW DOWN! I WAS GOING ON HOLIDAY!!!! And yes, even NLP Master Practitioner life coaches get to whinge sometimes.  Bright thought for today – Be ready for anything and take nothing for granted!

Hi from Gerri and Nicole

Hi everyone, Gerri and Nicole here in Sunny Brighton.

As you know we are passionate about supporting people to develop positive relationships in their lives at home and at work. Right now we are busy producing  new products and courses which will be available soon.

Meanwhile we are developing a strong relationship with the beach and a more tentative one with the brighton sea which  surprsingly Gerri found rather cold this morning.
